"The Alchemical Chronicles of George Ripley"
Is the comedy and absurd animated series about the alchemist George Ripley living and having adventures in Medieval Age. And I created collage illustrations for the series pitching`s presentation
George is an alchemist living and working in the kingdom of a madcap king. He leads a solitary existence and spends all his free time in a dark laboratory with an aim to discover the philosopher's stone. I created George`s laboratory as a dark classic medieval location with stone walls, arches and an oven but I also added contemporary flat vector details and fun objects
I also created a map of the whole world of the series, where I drew various locations: traditional ones such as a castle and a tower, as well as fancy ones such as a vegan cafe and a supermarket. I populated the map with different characters and livened it up with details and props
Creation of this map was a long painstaking process, when I was cutting out backgrounds and landscapes from paintings of the Renaissance masters and compilating them into a puzzle
I also created some illustrations of exterior locations for the series, such as the bar and the music festival. They`re also based on traditional medieval environment but with additional contemporary details: neon signs, fancy clothes, gadgets and other actual props
Our story takes place in a world that is like an animated and bizarre collection of medieval engravings and myths, so a lot of various characters live here. I drew some of them: the King, the Princess, the Monk, the Crazy Skeleton, the Devil, the Bad Wizard and the Cupid
Series structure is one complete story for one episode. And here are my illustrations for some of them
